Connecting the international buyers to the available forest resources in Guyana is what makes Woods Direct (WDI) unique. The company has access to well-managed sustainable forest resources and many of its raw materials are converted to finished products. WDI is an industry leader in pioneering new products from Guyana and taking the products global. Our timber products have a proven track record and are being used on every continent.
Our STORY
Rafeek Khan – 1998
The year 1998 marked the beginning of the timber trade business for Rafeek Khan, founder of Durable Wood Products Company established in Guyana, South America. The company grew rapidly with satellite offices in Brazil, the United States, and the Middle East.
The primary wood species for the company today have been used for over a century in mainly commercial applications internationally. However, in recent years the company began to actively promote its timbers for other industries such as hotels, resorts, recreation, and residential. Today the footprints of the company’s products are in every continent and many industries.
While the company traded timber from Guyana, Suriname and Brazil, Guyana eventually became the primary source of the company’s tropical hardwood products while manufacturing and distributing various products grew each year.
Jeremy Flavin
In 2013 Durable Wood Products (Guyana) began to promote its brand of products as Woods Direct. Hence, Woods Direct International LLC was formed in the United States with its co-founder Jeremy Flavin who has been an expert in the industry since 2007 for tropical hard woods imported into the United States. Jeremy Flavin was previously the Vice President of William G. Moore and Sons, Inc., which has been a very successful company within the timber trade for several decades. Jeremy is dedicated to the pursuit, development, and growth of markets for tropical hardwood products.
Successfully identifying and building relationships with strategic partners has been the cornerstone of Jeremy’s ability to promote and distribute a variety of products in the global marketplace. Jeremy now serves as the director for US operations while Rafeek continues to oversee the Guyana division.
